William Henry "Hal" Haddock, Jr., passed away at his home in Damascus, Georgia on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was born in Early County on October 28, 1937. Mr. Haddock was educated in Early County school system, Gordon Military College, ABAC and received a BS Degree from the University of Georgia. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Manry-Jordan Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely, Georgia.Funeral service will be graveside on Friday, January 6 at 11 a.m. at Pine Lawn Gardens Cemetery in Blakely, Georgia, with Rev. Laurie Hartley officiating.
Mr. Haddock was a former Director of the First State Bank of Blakely, one of the founders of ChemNut Corporation and director for 16 years. He was a past president of the Southern Peanut Warehouseman's Association, a past member and vice president of the Blakely Rotary Club, a member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department and a board member of Early County Farm Bureau. Mr. Haddock was appointed by Governor Roy Barnes to the Governor's Environmental Advisory Council. He was a member of Georgia Soil and Water board and chairman of the Flint River Water Policy and Planning Center. He was also a Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor.
Mr. Haddock was one of five founders of Southwest Georgia Academy, board chair for 16 years, member of the SGA Booster, PTO and Grandparents Clubs and an assistant varsity baseball coach.He was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church, Sunday school teacher, finance chairman, steward and South Georgia Conference delegate.
Mr. Haddock was a Cub Master and Scout Master for Troop 83, Damascus, Georgia. He completed Woodbadge training and was awarded the Silver Beaver, one of scouting's most prestigious awards. Under his leadership, Troop 83 produced 14 Eagles Scouts.
Mr. Haddock was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Haddock, Sr. and Veryl Haddock and his brother Henry Collier Haddock, Sr. He is survived by wife and best friend of 53 years, Alyce Porter Haddock, a daughter Porter Haddock Gray (George) of Blakely, sons William Henry "Hank" Haddock, III (Lynn) of Damascus, and Vernon Smith "Buster" Haddock (Kelly) of Damascus; beloved grandchildren Private FC William Henry "Will" Warren of Hawaii, Kevin John "KJ" Warren, Jr. of Blakely and Carter Ross Haddock of Damascus. He is also survived by a sister, Grier Haddock Tiner (Robert) of Blakely.
He is also survived by step-grandchildren Katie Gray and her fiance' Trevor Knowles of Destin, FL, Allen Gray of Newton, GA, Lee and Jenna Eppley of Leesburg, Danielle and Bobby Dowdy of Leesburg, and three step-great-grandchildren, Paxton Eppley, London Eppley and Haddock Dowdy, all of Leesburg.
