Alpharetta

Robert Lee Fitzgibbons was a man of honor and integrity. He was born to Garret and Eleanor Fitzgibbons, beginning his earthly journey in Cordele, GA on February 26, 1934 to notable families in that town. Life growing up was spent in various Georgia cities following his father’s career in the lumber trade. He attended Clemson University for pre-med and was popular on campus for his good looks and wit. He entered military service in the Navy as a pilot and married Joann Jordan in 1956. In Memphis, TN he was a reservist flight instructor at the Millington Naval base and earned the title of Lt Commander. He began a pharmaceutical career and was the proud of father of three girls.

In 1970, Wyeth-Ayerst pharmaceutical company saw his leadership potential and he was sent to Southern California where he completed his tenure there after 30 years as a business unit executive. In sunny Southern California Mr. Fitz was more than a business executive. His ranch home at the corner of Buffington Street was the center of the neighborhood activity. Every January 1st he hosted multiple families to homemade sourdough pancakes. On July 4th everyone showed up at Fitz’s home for barbeque, volleyball and fireworks. He hosted the BBA club on his backyard sunporch every evening. He loved camping trips to Yosemite National Park, Mojave Desert motorcycle rides and fishing in the Sierra’s.

In 2000 Mr. Bob and Joann built their retirement home on the Jordan family farm in Blakely, GA. He loved hunting and evenings spent with beloved relatives and friends. He cooked many a meal of fried squirrel, quail or catfish and was a darn good farmhand.

Where does one begin to summarize 92 years of commitment to God, family, work and neighbors in a paragraph or two. He never forgot a name, knew enough about any subject to carry on a great conversation, loved to make one laugh, loved to cook, loved to read, loved his dogs and cats, but most of all loved his family. He helped countless individuals to broaden and succeed in their careers, and was generous to anyone who needed a helping hand.

With his generous nature and heart of gold he blessed all who knew him.

Robert peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on March 3,2026. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 65 years Joann Jordan Fitzgibbons. He is survived by his daughters Kathy Fitzgibbons, Nancy Fitzgibbons, Eleanor Soltis and husband Chris Soltis and granddaughter Chloe Soltis, and his brother Garrett Joseph Fitzgibbons.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
