Maxine Adams Williams, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025
at the age of 86.
Maxine was born on April 9, 1939 in Edison, GA to her late parents Joseph and Emmye Adams. She was the second oldest of four children, and enjoyed her days of getting to help care for her younger brother and sister while spending time with her tight knit family of cousins and friends.
Wed to her late husband, Gordon Williams on February 9, 1962, Maxine made Arlington, GA her home. Together with her husband of 59 years, Maxine raised a family based on love and rooted in her Christian faith. While she worked as a seamstress for several years, Maxine found her greatest fulfillment in being a homemaker. She spent many years caring for her husband and children, and then her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She always had an open door and opened arms when it came to them- whether it was a sick grandchild that needed someone to sit with them, a tired grandbaby that needed a warm lap to nap in, or just simply stopping by unannounced to visit- Gramma was always there.
Maxine will be remembered as someone who freely gave unconditional love and nurturing to those blessed enough to know her. She cherished her family and could always be counted on to remember everyone’s favorite dishes and prepare them for special occasions. In addition to baking, Maxine loved listening to music, reading, solving puzzles, and of course watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball.
In addition to her late parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Morris, her brother, Billy Adams, and her son-in-law whom she loved, Gene Harrell.
Left to carry on her memory are her daughters, Wanda Harrell and Cindy Williams of Arlington, GA, her son Michael Williams (T’Juana), sister Charlotte Harrell (James) of Panama City, FL, sister-in-law Linda Adams of Donalsonville, GA, as well as many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves her two grandchildren and their spouses whom she loved so much, Holly Scarborough (Jeremy) of Blakely, GA and Drew Harrell (Nicole) of Athens, GA. Maxine also had three great-grandchildren who brought such joy to her life, Peyton, Jackson, and Maggie.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Arlington, with Dr. Van Power officiating the service.
