Juanita Whigham Gaines, a beloved resident of Arlington, GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on August 16, 1938, in Cairo, GA, Juanita lived a remarkable life defined by her fierce determination, strong will, unwavering independence, and deep devotion to her family and community.
Professionally, Juanita dedicated many years as a Compliance Officer at Bank of Edison and Bostwick Banking Company, earning the lasting respect of her colleagues for her integrity, sharp mind, and commitment to excellence. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and also shared warm fellowship at Arlington Methodist Church.
Her days in Arlington were famously anchored by her faithful companion, Bella, affectionately known as her "dog-ghter." The devoted pair became a familiar fixture around town, reliably taking their walks at the exact same time every single day and greeting neighbors with a warm presence.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Audrey David Whigham and Agnes Leigh Fiskus Whigham; her beloved husband, James Malcom Gaines; her sisters, Linda Lee and Gail White; and her brother, Jimmy Whigham.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Brett and Fiona Gaines of Palm Coast, FL, Kevin and Gina Gaines of Albany, GA, and Leigh Anne and Drew Collins of Edison, GA. Her memory will also be treasured by her grandchildren: Allison and Tanner Clements of Richmond, VA, Andrew and Ashlee Collins of Edison, GA, Spinks and Sarah Holman of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Lorie and Beau Clenney of Blakely, GA; her eight great-grandchildren; and her sweet companion, Bella.
Arrangements are being handled by Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, and a private family service to celebrate Juanita's life will be held at a later date.
