Arlington

Julianne "Judy" Cox Jordan, a beloved member of the Arlington, GA community, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on September 11, 1944, in Cuthbert, GA, Judy lived a life filled with adventure and love.

Judy served as a teacher for over 35 years at Calhoun County Elementary School and Southwest Georgia Academy. Her passion for teaching was evident in her creativity and opportunities she provided students both in and out of the classroom. Even after retirement, she volunteered many hours to enrich students' education.

A devoted member of Arlington Baptist Church for 46 years, Judy was active in her church community. She was a long-time member of Ruth's Reapers Sunday School Class and she taught the class for six years. Her church family was very dear to her and it brought her joy to serve alongside them. Her love for God was shown by her capacity to love; she had enough for everyone, anyone who needed it.

Judy had many talents, but her love for sewing followed her throughout her life. From sewing her own wedding dress to children's clothes to many beautiful quilts, sewing gave her years of fulfillment. An enthusiastic traveler, Judy had the opportunity to see many parts of the world with family and friends. She considered it a great accomplishment that she traveled the entire state of Georgia to photograph all 159 courthouses.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Michael "Mickey" Jordan, her loving daughters, Julie Michaelyn "JJ" Jordan Orr (Bradley) of Anderson, SC, and Nadolyn Christina "Tina" Jordan Lee (Adam) of Summerville, GA; her cherished grandchildren, Sara and Julia Orr, Crawford, Mac, and Coleman Lee; her brother, William Thomas "Bill" Cox (Tricia) of Dalton, GA; and her beloved pet, Suga. Judy also leaves behind nieces and nephews who adored her.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, William Atkins Cox and Christine Carter Cox, and her sister, Sara Cox Kidd.

Funeral services to honor Judy’s life will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Judy's wishes were to have a burial service at Oak Grove Cemetery, Arlington, GA at 10 AM, officiated by Dr. Van Power. Following the graveside will be a church service at Arlington Baptist Church at 11 AM, officiated by Rev. Gary Hadden. The family will visit with friends and loved ones following the service until 1 PM. Also, in accordance with Mrs. Judy's wishes, "No black is to be worn at my funeral", so please join the family in celebrating her colorful character by wearing your favorite color.

Serving as pallbearers are John Davis, John Hatcher, John Spence, Chuck Cowart, Chris Cowart, Mike Stewart, Mike Newberry, Larry Worsley, Tony Smith, and Billy Strickland. Honorary pallbearers will be her Ruth Reapers Sunday School Class.
