It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnny Earl Swords, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Johnny passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26th, 2026, at the age of 62, in his hometown of Blakely, Georgia.
Johnny was born on Monday, February 10th, 1964, in Blakely, Georgia, where he spent his entire life surrounded by family and friends. He was a dedicated electrician with Southern Electric, where he worked diligently for many years, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Johnny is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa R. Swords, and his loving children: Johnny Mitchell Swords (Kim) of Donalsonville, GA; Kayla Diane Still of Tupelo, MS; Corey Mac Swords of Knoxville, TN; and Jessie Taylor Whittaker (Jeremy) of Blakely, GA. He was a proud grandfather to Nate, Darrell, Jordan, Bryanna, Lilly, Axel, Noah, Havana, Paislee, Bailey, Maison, Melanie, and Millie, and a cherished great-grandfather to Paislee, Nathaniel, and Emeri.
He is also survived by his siblings: Carol Jean Fisher of Blakely, GA; Vicki Brumfield of Cartersville, GA; James Swords of Cartersville, GA; Susan Hill of Jasper, GA; and Patrick Swords of Acworth, GA, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, William Darrell Swords and Joann Cherry Swords, and his brother, Earnest Swords.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at the same location from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, prior to the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, who have provided compassionate care during this difficult time.
Johnny Earl Swords will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his kind and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
