John Wesley Bruner, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12th, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on January 10th, 1949, in Blakely, Georgia, Johnny was raised on the family farm in Zetto and spent his adult life in Early County.
Johnny was a dedicated entrepreneur, known for his self-employed ventures that contributed significantly to the local economy. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for riding his property, where he found peace and joy in nature's beauty.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Glenna Bruner, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children: Michelle Bruner Peace (Chris) of Blakely, GA; John Wesley Bruner, Jr. (Rebeca) of Tallahassee, FL; Mary Jo McMullen of Blakely, GA; Mandy Chapman (Chad) of Blakely, GA and Trey Watson (Tamara) of Memphis, TN. Also surviving are extra blessings Cole Medlin (Hannah) of Blakely, GA; and Joseph Sawyer (Ansley) of Columbus, GA. Johnny was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Bruner Lindsey of Ft. Gaines, GA. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John William Bruner and Mary Jo Pace Bruner, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
A funeral service to honor Johnny's life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Blakely on Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Chris Guffey. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the church from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on the same day. Interment will follow at New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines, GA.Johnny's legacy will be carried on by his pallbearers: Trey Watson, Joe Mobley, Jerome Tomberlin, Wade Crozier, Cole Medlin, and Joseph Sawyer, who will honor him with their service. Honorary pallbearer’s are Jasper Doswell, Joe Shivers, Bubba Stanley, and Darrell “Puddin” Doswell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, ensuring that Johnny's final journey is handled with the utmost care and respect.
John Wesley Bruner, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering love for the Lord, his family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his deep connection to the land he called home. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
