John Peter William Hurst Jr., born January 14, 1971, in Athens, Georgia, passed away March 31, 2026, in Savannah, Ga. Memorial Hospital from a short illness. He was the son of Guyla White Hurst Daley and the late John Peter William Hurst.

John is survived by his daughter, Jenny Anne Leigh Hurst of Florida ; his mother Guyla White Hurst Daley of Blakely, Ga.; his sister Paula Hurst Whitaker Moser (Landon) of Ringgold, Ga.; his brother Guy Luke Hurst (Kattie) of Sandy, Utah; his uncle, John L. “Jack” Hurst of Hilton Head, SC; and his aunt Leilann Odom (John) of Blakely, Ga. He is also survived by his cousins, Marie Isabel Hurst Luckey (Ben) of Hilton Head SC, Angel Odom and Deuce Odom (Meghan) of Blakely, Ga. He has an “adopted” Cousin Alex Morse of Charleston, SC, stepbrothers, Edward Joseph Daley of Blakely and Robert (Bob) Daley, Jr. of Columbia, SC, and Michael Daley of Cincinnati Ohio, along with several nieces and nephews: Justin, Marissa, Ben, and Jenna Whitaker; Kaylnn Allen (Bryan), Jaron, Morgan, Easton, and Cambrynn Dewald and Guy-Luke Geyson Hurst, and second cousins Isabel and Jacob Luckey of Hilton Head, SC.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather Robert Frank Daley of Blakely, his grandparents Guy and Eunice (King) White of Blakely, Ga., also preceded in death by his father, John Peter Wm. Hurst, son of John L. and Isabel (McKay)Hurst. John L. Hurst was the son of John L and Ruth (McKissack) Hurst of Ft. Gaines.

John graduated from high school in Boston, Ma and attended Georgia Southern. John had a natural gift in sales, something he used to great use during his many years working as Manager of Radio Shack on Hilton Head Island. He also worked as an assistant manager of Best Buy. He put his electronic skills and appliance knowledge into working for Sears, Lowes and other corporations.

John was known for his sense of humor, especially his habit of giving everyone a nickname—often one that stuck for years. He also had incredible memories when it came to movies and could recite lines word for word. Bringing laughter and nostalgia to those around him. An avid golfer, John found great joy on the course, where he enjoyed both the game and the camaraderie it brought. No matter where he was, John always seemed to need a rocking chair, a small but memorable part that made him uniquely himself. He was a passionate sports fan, especially when it came to the Georgia Bulldogs and Boston Bruins. Outside of work, John loved music and had a strong memorable voice, often sharing his talents through karaoke. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains where he could go snow skiing as well as relaxing days at the beach—two places that brought him peace and happiness. He will be remembered for his vibrant personality, his humor and the lasting impressions he left on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral services will be held at 11am with viewing at 10am on Friday, April 3rd at Manry- Jordan- Hodges Funeral Home, 21802 Lucile Rd. Blakely, Ga. With the Rev. Lori Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Blakely Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
