Gerald Joseph Bruner, a beloved resident of Blakely, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16th, 2026, at the age of ninety-three. Born on Friday, April 22nd, 1932, in Loogootee, Indiana, Gerald lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community.
Gerald was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 64 years, Mary Dean Bruner, his parents, David Edward Bruner and Edna Beulah Bruner, his daughter Tammy Durham, and all his thirteen siblings. He is survived by his loving daughter, Terrie Hutchins (Ron) of Blakely, GA, and his son-in-law, Keith Durham of Bluffton, GA. Gerald was a proud grandfather to Ansley Panizzi (Sean), Adam Hutchins (Ashley), Allison Bacon (Jordan), Joey Durham, Hannah Medlin (Cole), and Hunter Durham (Kendall). His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Kate Panizzi, David Hutchins, Ellie Panizzi, Cullen Hutchins, Amelia Panizzi, Thomas Hutchins, Carter Bacon, Cam Bacon, Libby Durham, Leanna Medlin, Sadie Medlin, Kellan Durham, and Barrett Durham.
A dedicated CPA by profession, Gerald also served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. His commitment to his faith was evident through his active participation in the First Baptist Church of Blakely, where he was a member of the choir and the Ric Hall Men's Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Blakely on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, at 3:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Chris Guffey. Visitation will precede the service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the church. Gerald will be laid to rest in Blakely Cemetery.
Pallbearers honoring Gerald's life include Tony Hawkins, Keith Durham, Sean Panizzi, Clink Alexander, Garrett Bennett, David Hutchins, and Cullen Hutchins. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ric Hall Men's Sunday School Class and the First Baptist Church Choir.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Langdale Place, 2720 Windemere Drive, Valdosta, GA, 31602.
The family would like to thank the staff and loyal caregivers of Langdale Place who assisted the family by loving and providing for Gerald so well during his final years. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Hospice of South Georgia/Langdale Hospice house for their guidance, care, and compassion during Gerald’s final days.
Arrangements are being handled by Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Gerald Bruner will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and his service to his community and country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
