Dennis Waylon Cobbs, 80, of Blakely, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Dennis lived a life defined by faith, generosity, and quiet strength.
Born in Joppa, Alabama, to Dexter Grady Cobbs and Lois Nunnelley Cobbs, Dennis proudly served in the United States Navy before beginning a respected career as a Retail Manager with TG&Y. He was known for his integrity, leadership, and tireless work ethic.
Dennis found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful traditions. An avid fisherman, he spent countless days on the Gulf Coast and at Walter F. George Lake, often donating his catch to church fish frys and sharing fillets with friends. He took pride in the pecan trees in his yard, shelling and gifting their harvest each fall. A lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, Dennis followed the team faithfully, keeping detailed stats and cheering them on through every season.
He was an active member of Blakely First Methodist Church, where he found fellowship and purpose. His faith guided his life, and his generosity touched everyone around him.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sara England Cobbs; his sons, Eric Cobbs of Marietta, GA, and Jonathan Cobbs (Natalia) of Pensacola, FL; and his cherished grandchildren: Thomas and Mia (children of Eric and Heather Hawthorne), and Angelika and Josiah (children of Jonathan and Natalia). He is also survived by his sisters, Rehna Boesswetter (Otto) of Cullman, AL, and Reba Skillman (Danny) of Oneonta, AL, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Nellie Williams and Clarine Cobbs.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Dennis’s memory and the love he shared so freely. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Fund at Blakely First Methodist Church in honor of Dennis.
Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
