David Ronald Elkins

David Ronald Elkins, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9th, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on December 10th, 1953, in Blountstown, Florida, David spent his final years in Colquitt, Georgia, surrounded by his close family.

David was a dedicated truck driver in the timber and logging industry, a career that spanned several decades and showcased his unwavering work ethic and commitment. A proud veteran, David served his country honorably in the United States Army.

Ultimately, David was a man who lived life on his own terms. He was strong-willed and independent, as anyone who knew him would tell you he wasn’t interested in being told what to do. He had a confident presence about him and the ability to figure things out as he went. He never needed directions because he could get anywhere by going “straight to it.” If you were fortunate enough to have him at a gathering, his sense of humor was enjoyed, however when he was ready to leave, there was no changing his mind. “Gotta go” was the only explanation offered.

David loved to pick on his sons, often disagreeing just to disagree and ending it with a “You don’t tell me”, which was typically followed by laughter of the other party involved. David was well-read and paid close attention to the world around him following politics but choosing not to discuss it at length. Beneath his tough exterior, he paid attention to those who mattered to him. It wasn’t always expressed in conventional ways but his family knew they were important to him.

David is survived by his children: Brandy Varnum of Dothan, AL, Jason Elkins (Shannon)of Cottonwood, AL, and Christian Elkins of Colquitt, GA, and Grandson, Seth Johnson(Brantley) of Cowarts, AL. David is also survived by his sister, Gloria Shiver of Uvalda, GA, as well as Nephews and Nieces: Gary, Michael, & Nina Higginbothem, and Sylvia Howell along with their beautiful families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward Elkins and Helen Stewart Askew, as well as his siblings, Stevie, Wayne, and Shirley. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, who have provided compassionate care to the family during this difficult time.
