It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Lindsey, a cherished member of the Edison, Georgia community. Betty was born on Friday, January 19, 1951, in Edison, Georgia, where she also spent her life bringing joy and dedication to those around her. She passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2026.
A loving mother, sister, and friend, Betty is survived by her beloved son, Ryan Brooks, and his wife Tracey of Holiday, Florida; her sister Peggy Smith (Bobby Paul) and brother Stevie McLendon, both of Edison, Georgia; and her sister-in-law Charlotte McLendon. Betty was also a proud aunt to her nieces and nephews, Christina Davis (Trevor), Brent Smith (Renee), Brandy Floyd (Turner), and Clay McLendon (Jen) as well as her great nieces and nephew, Ella Floyd, Emma Smith, Nathan Floyd who will remember her kindness and warmth always.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Nath Harmon McLendon and Martha Nesbit McLendon, as well as her brothers Malcolm and Harmon McLendon. Her steadfast devotion to family and community has left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
An accomplished educator, Betty earned her master’s degree in special education from Valdosta State and committed 32 years to teaching in Calhoun County School System. Her passion for education and compassion for her students touched countless lives.
Betty was known not only for her dedication to teaching but also for her vibrant participation in the community. Her interests included solitaire, needlepointing, and crocheting. Her creations were often shared with loved ones, each crafted piece a token of her affection and talent.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 2 pm at Edison Methodist Church, officiated by Kristin Young and Ed Thomas. Interment will follow at Mars Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation prior, from 1 to 2 pm at the church.
Honoring her life and service will be pallbearers Nathan Floyd, Clay McLendon, Tommy Manry, Brent Smith, Jimmy Walton, Jack Brooks, Jim Clark, and Turner Floyd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Breast Cancer Society, reflecting Betty's enduring spirit of giving and caring for others. Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home.
