Betty Brown Dunaway

Betty Brown Dunaway, 99, formerly of Blakely, Georgia, passed away September 22, 2026. She resided at Brookdale in Birmingham, Alabama for the past nine years. Mrs. Dunaway was born December 22, 1926 in Forsyth, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Martha McKinley Brown. She was a graduate of Mary Persons High School and attended Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia.

Mrs. Dunaway was a retired secretary, bookkeeper for Early County High School. She was a member of the Blakely First Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. While living at Brookdale she served on the Advisory Council and was an Ambassador to new residents.

Mrs. Dunaway was preceded in death by her husband Guy Harold Dunaway and her parents. She is survived by her son, Harold Dunaway and his wife Shawn, a grandson, Greg and his wife Monica, a granddaughter, Kacy Dunaway, and a great-granddaughter Blakely Dunaway, all of Birmingham, Alabama.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the chapel one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Alex Howell will be officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blakely First Methodist Church, 397 College Street, Blakely, Georgia, or to your favorite charity.
