Barbara June Wilson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on Thursday, June 12th, 1947, in Headland, Alabama, Barbara was a cherished resident of Blakely, Georgia, where she spent her life surrounded by family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, George Lane Wilson, Sr. Together, they built a loving family, including their children Andrea Wilson Givens (Andy) and George Lane Wilson, Jr. (Casey), both of Colquitt, GA. She was a proud grandmother to Hudson Givens, Landon Givens, Mason Wilson, and Carson Wilson, all of Colquitt, GA. Barbara is also survived by her siblings, Julia Granberry of Dothan, AL, David Holloman of Graceville, FL, and Tommy Holloman of Headland, AL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Nettie and John Blackshear. Her father, Andrew Cecil Holloman, passed away before her birth. She was also predeceased by her son, John Calvin Wilson.
Barbara dedicated her professional life to the Georgia Department of Labor, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement. Her commitment to her community extended beyond her career, as she was an active member of Beulah Baptist Church. There, she served as church secretary, song leader, and Sunday School teacher, touching the lives of many with her kindness and faith.
A funeral service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Manry Jordan Hodges Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. Larry Elliott. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the same location. Interment will follow at Colquitt City Cemetery.
Pallbearers honoring Barbara's memory will be her grandsons Hudson Givens, Landon Givens, Mason Wilson, Carson Wilson, along with Billy Wilson and Jacob English. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Enfinger, Jill Wilson, and Brent Scarborough.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Colquitt Senior Center, reflecting Barbara's lifelong dedication to community service and support.
